According to EduMed, “many schools and career centers provide online phlebotomy programs, but that’s not to say they all guarantee equal student outcomes. It’s important to consider questions around accreditation, graduation rates, and percentage of students who find work.”
So, what makes an online phlebotomy training program credible? Read this article to learn more about accredited phlebotomy schools and PhlebotomyU’s online training course.
Approved phlebotomy schools are reviewed and accredited by the state’s health department. In California, they must be approved by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). The CDPH is responsible for protecting and improving the health of Californians. This department sets mandates for academic institutions to abide by the state’s regulations and health and safety requirements. The BPPE creates ethical guidelines for postsecondary institutions to protect the students.
Not all phlebotomy training programs are the same. If you choose to go to an unapproved online phlebotomy training program, you may receive improper and unsafe training. Without the proper education, you may not have taken or passed the mandatory national and state phlebotomist certification exams. In addition, you will not be eligible or selected for phlebotomy positions because employers want workers who have received a thorough and correct education.
By attending an approved program, you will be trained correctly and safely by following CDPH and BPPE guidelines and given academic support. With this skill set and guidance, students are more prepared to enter the workforce.
PhlebotomyU is one of the best phlebotomy schools in California. We are approved by the BPPE and CDPH and offer several courses. Through our high-quality education, PhlebotomyU students learn the necessary didactic and practical skills for their careers. PhlebotomyU has an externship program where students work with local clinics for 40-120 hours. We also provide a resume builder tool and connect students to phlebotomist positions after graduating from the program.
PhlebotomyU prides itself on its partnerships. Currently, we are partnered with MiraCosta Technology Career Institute (TCI), Live Well San Diego, and clinical sites. These partners play a role in our phlebotomy training and allow our students to gain experience through an externship.
PhlebotomyU’s online phlebotomy training program is designed for people with previous experience. Students receive 40 hours of didactic training in this advanced course and prepare for the California-specific phlebotomy certifications: Limited Phlebotomy Technician, Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I), and Certified Phlebotomy Technician II (CPT II). All PhlebotomyU students will be registered for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) exams.
PhlebotomyU’s online course is tailored for phlebotomists moving to California with over 1,040 hours or six months of full-time experience within the last five years. Experience only counts towards the hour requirement if it was on-the-job blood collection services. Previous experience must be verified by a previous employer who possesses an MD, DO, or LCB and is associated with a valid CLIA laboratory. The CDPH reserves the right to verify this through further investigation.
