Course Objectives
- Review the basic concepts of blood composition, blood flow and coagulation
- Discuss the differences between serum, plasma, and whole blood, including their composition, properties, and collection requirements
- Describe the basics of collecting and processing the different types of blood specimens, and the specimen collection requirements for common types of blood tests
- Emphasize the role of the phlebotomist in ensuring the accuracy of specimen collection, as part of the goals of patient care
