Course Objectives

After completing this course, the student is expected to:

    1. Identify the components of blood 
    2. Know the role of erythropoiesis in RBC production 
    3. Describe the basic structures of the RBC, the cell membrane, and hemoglobin
    4. Understand the role of the Na+– K+ pump in maintaining cell integrity
    5. Know the role of hemoglobin give examples of hemoglobin abnormalities
    6. Explain the process of gas exchange between blood and the cells
    7. Understand the role and effects of hemolysis
