Course Objectives
- Review role of blood (as a liquid tissue) and its components
- Discuss the process of hematopoiesis, including the role of bone marrow progenitor cells in blood cell development
- Discuss the morphology and function of red blood cells, including the role of hemoglobin in oxygen transport and gas exchange
- Discuss the morphology of white blood cells, the different WBC types, and their roles in the immune response
- Discuss the development of platelets and their role in hemostasis
- Review normal adult cell counts and the terminology associated with abnormal levels,
- Discuss some conditions related to the abnormal blood cell counts
